Few cocktails are as tied to a moment as the Cosmopolitan, an IBA Contemporary Classic that became a cultural phenomenon through its association with Sex and the City in the 1990s. Vodka is shaken with cranberry juice, Cointreau, and fresh lime juice, then double-strained into a chilled cocktail glass and garnished with a lime wheel. The Cointreau's orange flavor bridges the vodka and the tart cranberry-lime combination, producing a pink, neatly balanced drink of roughly 12 percent ABV and about 137 calories. Its martini-glass presentation and tart-sweet profile have kept it a fixture of the modern bar.

History & Origins
The Cosmopolitan's modern version is attributed to bartender Toby Cecchini of The Odeon in New York City, who refined an earlier recipe by Cheryl Cook and popularized it in the late 1980s. However, Neal Murray of Minneapolis and several other bartenders have also claimed credit, making the exact origin disputed. The drink's cultural prominence reached its peak with its appearance as Carrie Bradshaw's signature cocktail in Sex and the City, which aired from 1998 to 2004.
Tasting Notes
Aroma: Citrus-forward with lemon-lime zest, the bright orange of Cointreau, and a faint cranberry-berry note. Palate: Tart and refreshing; vodka provides a clean base, Cointreau adds orange sweetness and complexity, cranberry juice contributes a tart berry note and the cocktail's signature pink color, and lime juice keeps the profile bright and crisp. Finish: Clean and medium, pleasantly tart.
Pro Tip
Double-strain into a large, well-chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a flamed orange peel to add an aromatic citrus dimension to the drink's presentation.
