- Strawberries 2
- Carbonated Water Top
Anweisungen
Stir gin, grenadine, and powdered sugar with ice and strain into a highball glass over ice cubes. Fill with carbonated water and stir. Decorate with the pineapple chunks and the strawberries and serve.
The Gin Squirt is a fruity and sweet gin highball built from gin, grenadine, and powdered sugar topped with carbonated water, garnished with pineapple chunks and fresh strawberries. The fruit garnishes add visual interest and fragrant aromatics to a sweetened, effervescent gin base. It is a longer, more fruit-forward serve than a standard gin highball.
History & Origins
The Gin Squirt is a classic American cocktail from the early to mid-20th century that appears in bartending literature as a sweet, fruited variation of the gin cooler and gin fizz family. Its inclusion of fruit garnishes that are placed directly in the drink reflects the pre-Prohibition era approach to elaborate fruit-garnished cocktails. Its specific origin is disputed and unrecorded.
Tasting Notes
Aroma: gin botanicals with sweet grenadine and fresh pineapple and strawberry from the garnish. Palate: sweet and fruity with the grenadine's pomegranate sweetness and the botanical gin character, lightened by carbonated water and accented by the fresh fruit garnishes. Finish: sweet, fruity, and effervescent with a botanical gin fade.
Pro Tip
Add the pineapple and strawberry garnishes after adding the soda water so they float on top and provide aromatic impact with every sip, rather than sinking to the bottom.
