History & Origins
The Whitecap Margarita is a modern variation on the classic Margarita, which itself was created — according to the most widely cited account — by Carlos Herrera at Rancho La Gloria in Tijuana in 1938, though numerous competing origin stories exist. The cream of coconut variation is a late 20th-century development that reflects the influence of the Piña Colada and the popularity of coconut as a cocktail flavor in American tiki and tropical drink culture.
