History & Origins
Caipirinha's origins in Brazil date back to the early 20th century, with the drink evolving from medicinal preparations combining cachaça, lime, garlic, and honey used to treat the Spanish flu. Over time, the garlic was dropped and sugar was added, creating the modern cocktail. The IBA recognized it as a Contemporary Classic, and it is now one of the most internationally recognized drinks associated with Brazilian culture.
