IBA

History & Origins

Paradise was created by Harry Craddock and published in his seminal 1930 work The Savoy Cocktail Book, one of the most important bartending references of the 20th century. Craddock worked at the American Bar of the Savoy Hotel in London, which was a refuge for American drinkers during Prohibition. The IBA includes Paradise in its Unforgettables category, recognising its place as one of the foundational classic cocktails.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Dry gin botanicals with sweet apricot and a bright fresh orange note. Palate: Gin-forward with juniper and botanical complexity upfront, followed by the rich, sweet stone-fruit character of the apricot brandy and the fresh acidity of the orange juice, which softens the drink's edges. Finish: Dry and moderately long with a botanical and fruit echo.

Pro Tip

Ensure the cocktail glass is thoroughly pre-chilled and shake vigorously with large ice cubes rather than small chips to achieve the right dilution and temperature for this spirit-forward drink.
