IBA ContemporaryClassic

History & Origins

The Moscow Mule was created in 1941 as a collaboration between John G. Martin of Heublein (which had acquired Smirnoff vodka) and Jack Morgan, owner of the Cock 'n' Bull pub in Hollywood, who had an oversupply of ginger beer. The drink helped introduce vodka to American consumers at a time when it was largely unknown in the United States. The copper mug became associated with the cocktail partly as a marketing strategy.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Bright lime zest and spicy ginger with a clean vodka note underneath. Palate: Crisp and effervescent with a sharp ginger bite upfront, balanced by the tartness of lime juice and the clean neutrality of vodka. Finish: Refreshing and slightly spicy with a clean citrus fade.

Pro Tip

Serve in a chilled copper mug filled to the brim with ice, squeezing the lime wedge directly into the drink and dropping it in for added citrus aroma throughout.
