History & Origins
The Jewel of the Nile is a mid-20th century American cocktail that exploits the unique properties of Chartreuse, the French herbal liqueur produced by Carthusian monks since 1737 using 130 secret plant ingredients. Using both expressions simultaneously was a device to balance the Green Chartreuse's intensity with the Yellow's gentleness. Its exact origin is disputed, but it appears in several classic American cocktail books.

Aroma: An extraordinary herbal complexity — mint, tarragon, angelica, and saffron from the Chartreuse expressions, with gin's juniper and citrus beneath.
