History & Origins
The A.J. cocktail appears in American bar guides from the mid-20th century and is consistent with the tradition of pairing Applejack with citrus juice that became popular in the Northeast United States. Applejack, one of America's oldest spirits, was commonly used in cocktails before Prohibition, and simple recipes like the A.J. reflect that heritage. Its origin is disputed and no definitive attribution has been established.
