History & Origins

The Applecar is a variation on the classic Sidecar cocktail, itself dating to post-World War I Paris, with the substitution of Applejack for brandy giving it a distinctly American identity. Applejack's long history in American distilling — dating back to colonial times — makes this a drink with deep roots in New World spirits culture, though the specific recipe's origin is disputed. The equal-parts format reflects the modern Sidecar's balanced sour template.
