Spectacle is the point of the Flaming Dr. Pepper, a party shot assembled from amaretto, vodka, and high-proof rum, with beer and Dr. Pepper combined to approximate the flavor of the soft drink it is named for. The overproof rum is floated and briefly ignited, the burning shot glass then dropped into the waiting beer and soda. The resulting drink trades subtlety for theater, registering near 23% ABV. Its name derives from the claim that the finished combination tastes faintly of Dr. Pepper.

History & Origins
The Flaming Dr. Pepper emerged from American college and bar culture in the 1980s and 1990s as novelty flaming shots became a bartending trend. Its claim to taste like the iconic Texas soft drink made it a popular drinking game staple. Its precise origin is disputed and unattributed to any single bartender.
Tasting Notes
Aroma: sweet amaretto almond and cherry, high-proof rum, and the caramelized cola note of Dr. Pepper. Palate: sweet and slightly almond-forward from the amaretto with a malty beer body and the caramel-spice note of Dr. Pepper. Finish: warm, sweet, and slightly boozy with a lingering Dr. Pepper-like cola note.
Pro Tip
Extinguish the flame completely before consuming — never drink from a flaming glass — and have a damp cloth nearby when igniting the high-proof rum float.
