Gin Cooler

- Gin 2 oz
- Carbonated Water Top
- Powdered sugar 1 tsp
- Orange spiral 1
- Lemon peel 1
Petunjuk
Stir powdered sugar and 2 oz. carbonated water in a collins glass. Fill glass with ice and add gin. Fill with carbonated water and stir. Add the lemon peel and the orange spiral so that the end of the orange spiral dangles over rim of glass.
The Gin Cooler is a Collins-style long drink combining gin with powdered sugar, carbonated water, and garnishes of orange spiral and lemon peel. It is a simple, historically rooted gin highball that predates the widespread use of tonic water, presenting gin in a clean, lightly sweetened, effervescent format. History & Origins
The cooler is one of the foundational cocktail categories defined in early 20th-century bartending manuals, describing a spirit lengthened with soda or ginger ale and lightly sweetened. Jerry Thomas and other pioneering bartenders of the 19th century included cooler recipes in their foundational works. The Gin Cooler as a specific recipe appears in numerous bartending guides from the early 1900s.
Tasting Notes
Aroma: juniper and citrus gin botanicals with a sweet powdered sugar note and the bright oils of the orange spiral and lemon peel. Pro Tip
Cut the orange spiral into the glass so that one end hangs over the rim for visual appeal, and squeeze the lemon peel over the surface before dropping it in to release the aromatic oils.
