The Flaming Lamborghini is a theatrical layered cocktail combining Kahlúa, Sambuca, Blue Curaçao, and Baileys Irish Cream that is traditionally ignited before drinking with a straw while the Baileys is poured simultaneously over the flame. The combination of coffee, anise, orange, and cream liqueurs creates a rich, sweet profile. It is as much a performance as a cocktail.
History & Origins
The Flaming Lamborghini was created in the 1980s and is often attributed to a bar in Ibiza, Spain, though its precise origin is disputed. It became a signature spectacle drink across European bars and nightclubs during the late 1980s and 1990s, when flaming cocktails and theatrical service were fashionable. The name references the Italian luxury car brand and the extravagance associated with it.
Tasting Notes
Aroma: sweet coffee from the Kahlúa, anise from the Sambuca, orange and tropical notes from the Blue Curaçao, and rich cream from the Baileys. Palate: sweet and multi-layered with coffee-cream richness, anise spice, and citrus-orange complexity. Finish: warming, sweet, and creamy with lingering coffee and anise.
Pro Tip
Only ignite in a safe environment with supervision — extinguish the flame completely before drinking, and use two shot glasses of Baileys and Blue Curaçao poured simultaneously as the classic service method.
