The National Aquarium is a layered or blended cocktail with a distinctive blue color, typically featuring blue curaçao, vodka, pineapple juice, and sometimes lemonade or lemon-lime soda. The vibrant turquoise hue is intended to evoke the visual impression of tropical ocean water, referencing aquarium themes of bright marine life. It is usually served over ice in a highball or hurricane glass with tropical garnishes.

The signature blue color of the National Aquarium comes from blue curaçao, an orange-flavored liqueur dyed with a vivid azure hue. When combined with clear spirits and light fruit juices, it produces a jewel-toned turquoise cocktail reminiscent of tropical seawater. Adding pineapple juice creates a slightly greener shade, while using lemonade keeps the blue more vibrant and pure.

A National Aquarium cocktail typically has an ABV of around 10–15%, with vodka as the primary alcohol source at 40% ABV, diluted generously by fruit juices and the moderate-proof blue curaçao at around 15–25% ABV.
