History & Origins
The Freddy Kruger shot takes its name from the fictional horror villain of the Nightmare on Elm Street film franchise, first appearing in 1984. Like many novelty shots of the 1980s and 1990s, it was created to invoke fear through its formidable flavor combination and high ABV rather than any precise documented origin. Its authorship is disputed.
Tasting Notes
Aroma: herbal and slightly medicinal Jägermeister with sweet anise from the Sambuca and a sharp vodka note. Palate: complex and bold with herbal bitterness from the Jägermeister, sweet anise from the Sambuca, and a neutral vodka heat. Finish: long and warming with herbal bitterness and lingering anise.
Pro Tip
Serve the shot as a single large measure rather than the standard half-ounce pour indicated in the recipe for a more balanced expression of all three spirits.
