Vodka Tonic
VT
Malzemeler
- Vodka 4 cl
- Tonic water 10 cl
- Lemon peel 1 Slice
Talimatlar
Wash and cut 1 wedge and 1 slice of lime or lemon. Fill a tumbler with fresh ice. Pour the desired dose of vodka and top up with the tonic. Squeeze the lime wedge into the glass and decorate with the slice. That's all, very simple: it's just the recipe for happiness!
The Vodka Tonic (VT) is a classic two-ingredient highball combining vodka and tonic water, served over ice in a highball glass and garnished with a lemon peel. Unlike the 'Vodka And Tonic' entry with a full-fill tonic, this preparation uses a more precise ratio of 4cl vodka to 10cl tonic for a balanced, lower-ABV long drink. The quinine bitterness of the tonic and the lemon garnish create a refreshingly dry, slightly aromatic character.
History & Origins
The Vodka Tonic evolved directly from the Gin and Tonic, which originated in British India where quinine-infused tonic water was used as a preventive against malaria. As vodka displaced gin in Western drinking preferences from the 1960s onward, the vodka-and-tonic combination became a bar staple in its own right. The specific 4:10 ratio recipe reflects a measured, European approach to the drink's proportions.
Tasting Notes
Aroma: Clean vodka with tonic's quinine bitterness and a citrus lemon peel note from the garnish. Palate: Refreshingly dry, with quinine's characteristic bitterness balanced by tonic's sweetness; vodka provides a clean alcoholic base and the lemon garnish adds a bright citrus accent. Finish: Dry, gently bitter, and refreshing with lingering quinine and lemon zest.
Pro Tip
Squeeze the lime or lemon wedge into the drink and drop it in before serving — the citrus oil and juice significantly improve the aromatics and flavor of the drink.
