History & Origins

The Yellow Bird cocktail emerged in the Caribbean-inspired cocktail culture of the 1950s and 1960s, with its name derived from the traditional Caribbean folk song 'Yellow Bird' — itself based on a 19th-century Haitian poem. The use of Galliano, the Italian herbal liqueur, in a Caribbean-style rum drink reflects the cross-cultural nature of mid-century tiki and tropical bartending.
