The Vodka Martini (also known as the Vodkatini or Kangaroo Cocktail) is a classic variation of the Martini substituting vodka for gin, combined with dry vermouth and an olive garnish, shaken or stirred and served in a cocktail glass. Its association with James Bond in the Ian Fleming novels — Bond's preferred drink though he actually specified the Vesper in Casino Royale — cemented its status as a sophisticated cultural icon from the 1960s onward. The 'shaken not stirred' controversy it inspired has become one of the most enduring debates in cocktail culture.
