History & Origins
The GG is a classic Australian drink that emerged in the mid-20th century, particularly associated with the 1970s and 1980s when Galliano and its vanilla-herbal profile were widely popular. It draws on the same spirit as the Harvey Wallbanger era of Galliano cocktails. The drink's exact origin is disputed and it has been claimed by multiple Australian bar cultures.
Tasting Notes
Aroma: sweet vanilla and herbal anise from the Galliano with a spicy ginger effervescence. Palate: sweet and warming with Galliano's complex vanilla-herb sweetness balanced by the spicy ginger ale and a pleasant effervescence. Finish: sweet, gingery, and herbal with a warm vanilla fade.
Pro Tip
Pour the Galliano directly over cubed ice and gently add the ginger ale down the side of the glass to preserve the carbonation and create a natural layering effect.
